I can’t tell you how happy I was to see the new no-envelope-deposit ATM system come to market. It was such a pain to have to track down an envelope, scribble your information down, do actual calculations and then, worst of all, lick those putrid envelopes when depositing at the ATM. Now you simply insert your check and the optical character recognition software does the rest. If you’re skeptical of the machines honesty it will show you an image so you can confirm that it read the correct amount from your check. Lastly, you can even get a receipt with an image of your deposit checks on it.This almost certainly saves the banks money on envelopes, pens, etc at ATM stations. I wonder if they also had reliability issues from envelope glue seeping out into their infeed mechanisms? Nonetheless, this is a positive evolution in my opinion. Is anyone apprehensive about shoving your loose checks into the jaws of the banking beast?
