[OPPORTUNITY] Google is Pretty Cool - Take Advantage.

October 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Google has opened up a competition in honor of their 10th anniversary that could amount to something pretty special. Their new Project 10^100 sets out to source world changing ideas from the masses, stating boldly : “May Those Who Help The Most Win”. They are putting up $10M USD to fund ideas that can make a wide reaching, meaningful impact on the lives of the citizens of the Earth. They are leaving the idea generation up to you, requiring only that your idea fit in to one of the following categories:

  • Community: How can we help connect people, build communities and protect unique cultures?
  • Opportunity: How can we help people better provide for themselves and their families?
  • Energy: How can we help move the world toward safe, clean, inexpensive energy?
  • Environment: How can we help promote a cleaner and more sustainable global ecosystem?
  • Health: How can we help individuals lead longer, healthier lives?
  • Education: How can we help more people get more access to better education?
  • Shelter: How can we help ensure that everyone has a safe place to live?
  • Everything else: Sometimes the best ideas don’t fit into any category at all.
  • Early next year, the masses will choose the best ideas and through some sort of voting process award you with some money to make your idea a reality. I’m not sure how the financing/funding structure would play out if your idea is chosen, but it’s worth a shot if you have neither the resources, time, or the ambition to try to patent and commercialize your idea on your own. They also ask for a recommendation for a specific organization that might be best suited to execute your plan, so I’m not sure if the idea originators will be allowed to stay involved. So, don’t quit your day job just yet - but head over and submit your idea soon, the deadline is 20 October 2008.
